Many know John Otto as the hard hitting drummer of iconic rock band Limp Bizkit, but many don’t realize the lives he has impacted in numerous other ways through his charity initiatives, family, school/teachings and other endeavors.
And beyond what John puts out there publicly through music or his social media, many may not know these special things about him. He is an avid gamer in his spare time, a huge Star Wars, Marvel, and DC enthusiast and collector, practitioner of meditation, is well versed in survival skills and marksmanship and is a Pop Chip fanatic!
But let’s learn even more about him on a personal level…
1) In your own opinion, how successful are you today?
Today, I feel very successful because I’m happy with every aspect of my life. My family is healthy and thriving. My band has enjoyed 26 years of success and we’re better than ever. On a personal level, I’ve never been more at peace with who I am and where I am in my life.
2) What is so unique about your style of drumming?
I think the way I blend rock and hip hop makes my style of drumming unique.
3) Any tragedies (either professionally or personally) that you have encountered in your life?
The loss of my father has been the greatest personal tragedy in my life. I wish we had spent more quality time together toward the end of his life. The biggest lesson I learned when he passed was to never take time with your loved ones for granted. I used to carry a lot of regrets about the time we lost. Eventually, I decided I couldn’t continue to focus on what we missed out on because it was distracting me from remembering the good times we had shared. That was really healing for me.
4) What are your hopes for your music career, drum school and gaming channel going forward?
I have simple hopes for my future. I hope my band continues to make music our fans love. I hope my drum school helps other musicians grow as artists. I hope my gaming channel entertains people and makes them laugh.
5) Any quote or “words of wisdom” that you live by?
Find your passion in life and use it to make the world a better place.
6) How do you feel you are making the world a better place today?
I feel I am making the world a better place by giving back to my community, continuing to improve myself as a person and most importantly raising my daughter Ava to be a happy and productive young lady.
