Solar power is a rapidly growing business in India, as part of the country’s renewable energy sector. As of November 30, 2023, the country’s solar installed capacity was 48.556 GW.<\/p>\n
The Indian government set a goal of 20 gigawatts of capacity for 2023, which was met four years ahead of schedule. The goal was upped in 2015 to 100 GW of solar capacity by 2023 (including 40 GW from rooftop solar), with a projected expenditure of $100 billion. In India, about 42 solar parks have been created to supply land to solar plant developers. According to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, another 36.03 GW of solar projects are in different phases of execution (as of January 31, 2023), with another 23.87 GW in the tendering process.<\/p>\n
Rooftop solar power produces 2.1 GW, with 70% of it going to industry or commerce. India is developing off-grid solar power for local energy requirements in addition to its large-scale grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) effort. Latest solar panels in India<\/strong> are increasingly being used to address rural requirements; by the end of 2015, the country had sold just under one million solar lamps, eliminating the demand for kerosene. A nationwide initiative delivered 1,18,700 solar house lighting systems and 46,655 solar street lighting installations that year; little over 14 lakh (1.4 million) solar cookers were deployed in India.<\/p>\n Solar panels are made consisting of solar cells mounted in a frame and shielded by glass.
