How To Turn Tragedies Into Success

Life isn’t easy for any of us and every day we face difficulties and have to strengthen ourselves to get through our day to day life. But a tragedy is the kind of bump in the road of life that has you tripping over yourself and hurting everywhere, making it difficult for you to get back and continue as you would have otherwise. A tragedy can be anything, it can be the death of a loved one, it can be the loss of an important job, it can be a life-altering truth, it can be anything that changes your perspective of the life your leading and brings you to a standstill. In a situation like this, it is important to understand that you have to move on and overcome the standstill, that it isn’t going to do anyone any good if you wallow away in pain and forget to live life.

To help you along we’ve compiled a list of things you need to do in order to overcome the tragedy you’re facing and come out successful.

6. Embrace it, don’t embed it:

In order to stay composed and appear strong during a tragedy, we ignore our emotions and don’t let them out, hoping to keep things under control and at times in hope that no one will see us break down or show weakness. Such behavior is considerably deteriorating and embeds the hurt in our minds. We continue to carry on these emotions into the future and let them affect our lives in the worst of ways. By letting ourselves feel at the start, by embracing these emotions of pain and hurt we save ourselves a lot of pain in the future.

5. Not giving in to our vices:

People who have been hurt, or have faced huge losses more, often fall into the web of their vices. Some people start drinking more than they should, some people sleep around and some through caution to the wind and end up ruining their lives. It’s important to understand that these things hurt you more than they help you with your pain, there is no such thing as drinking your sorrow away, you can only drink your sanity away.

4. Go to work:

If you’ve lost someone close to you, or if something unusual or life-altering has happened to, you can’t possibly stay at home and lose yourself in the pain and suffering. In a situation like this, it is important to move on and get back to your daily life routine if you work somewhere then get back to work if you stay home you might even want to increase your daily activities. Interacting with people and getting back into your routine is the best way you can overcome your tragedy.

3. Learn from your experience:

Every single experience that you’ll ever have will leave a mark on you, and it is impossible to go back to life scratch free after you’ve been through a tragedy. But how this tragedy effects you of-course, depends completely on you. You can take this chance to learn and come out stronger and more successful or you could simply carry its weight where ever you go, make life all the more difficult. When something like this happens, it is up to us to choose if we will rise above it or be taken down by it.

2. Don’t forget that your alive and have needs:

When we’re mourning our loved ones or getting over a major loss we completely forget to take care of ourselves, and that usually ends up in us losing a lot more. We neglect our jobs, our health, our other loved ones and ourselves. It is important to understand that while things are difficult now they won’t always be like this, and that life and death are a part of the circle of life, the best way to give life to over loved ones that have passed away is to live our lives to the fullest and by cherishing their memories.

1. Pray if you are religious:

Believing in a high force and a life after this one gives you peace in times of sorrow, and in great loss, prayer can be a shoulder to cry on. But if you aren’t religious I believe meditation and nature can provide tranquility as well. If you are feeling lost, try going to natural reserve or star gazing, there is something ominous and calming about a clear night sky and being alone with nothing but the universe for company.

In the end …

In the end, I believe it is important to tell you that tragedy can always serve as the foundation on which you build your empire, it can be the point where you change everything and come out new. Hellen Keller has it beautifully summed up,

“Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.”
