As we begin to thankfully leave the Covid-19 pandemic behind us, it’s clear that some things will never be the same – the last couple of years have left an indelible mark on our society, redefining our perspectives around a number of issues.

One of those issues is our work/life balance, with the lockdowns of 2023 and 2023 leading to many people being forced out of their offices and into their homes. Having had time to reflect, many people have found that there are many benefits to working from home, and that this often leads to increased productivity for them, as well as greater job satisfaction and general better mental wellbeing.

For those of us who have spent the previous decades working almost exclusively from the office, the pandemic marked a huge change in our working environment (and even for those younger workers who have only joined the workforce recently) setting yourself up to be an effective remote worker isn’t as easy as you might think.

Read on to find out more about setting yourself up for success while working from home.

Have a dedicated workstation

While one of the positives of working from home is that you have the freedom to work from the comfy chair in the living room if you so desire, having a dedicated workspace is important in capturing that working mindset while at home.

By creating a space free of distractions, with all of your necessary resources and the space you need to operate effectively close at hand, you are setting yourself up to be able to complete your tasks efficiently.

In offices, workstations help to maintain a working atmosphere. Capturing that feeling at home will set you up for success.

Make sure tech is up to date

You may be lucky enough to work for a company that actively invests in its technology, with new laptops, computers and monitors to ensure no aspect of their employee’s workload is inhibited.

Technology is improving at an exponential rate and this applies to the software and programs that companies are using in their daily operations. Programs and applications like Kanban method run efficiently in order to get tasks completed and actually benefit from the extra functionality they provide.

This is why having updated tech is important for efficiency. In the world of work, time is money and having updated systems will allow you to work at your most productive. There are brands that now specialize in this kind of computer, including Lenovo business and personal use laptops

Establish routines

One big change between the office and the home workplace is the sudden presence of distractions. Offices are ordered carefully with the purpose of allowing their employees to be as focused as possible, while homes are also for relaxing and spending time with family.

Having strong routines established minimizes the impact of distractions. This works both ways so that you are dedicating working hours to be distraction free, and helping family or housemates understand that you shouldn’t be disturbed during a particular time of day.
